Who is Dr. Jayne?

Jayne (pronounced Janie) is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California (LPCC #495) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (#4610).  She earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Old Dominion University in 2013.  She holds a Master of Arts in Counseling specializing in college student development and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development.  Jayne is a National Board-Certified Counselor (NCC #202501).  She is certified in the following:

  • Internal Family Systems Level 1

  • Applied Neuroscience for the treatment of Anxiety, Depression and Trauma

  • Mindfulness for Emerging Adults (formerly Koru Mindfulness)

  • Intercultural Development Inventory & Intercultural Conflict Styles

She is an active member of California Association of Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors and American Counseling Association. Jayne started in the mental health field as a volunteer crisis counselor for a suicide prevention lifeline in 1998. Jayne has been a mental health professional since 2005, counseling supervisor since 2008 and an adjunct counseling faculty from 2009 to 2022.  She integrates techniques and concepts from Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, neuroscience and somatic therapies.  She has worked mainly with 18-30 year-old folks in charter schools, job-training programs, universities and private practice with presenting concerns focused on identity development, privilege and oppression, navigating the impacts of trauma, career, relationships, adjustment, education/academic, and anger.

On a more personal side, Jayne I grew up surrounded by entrepreneurs in the agriculture industry in Salinas, California.  Her exposure to small business gave her firsthand experience with seeing an idea come to life as a vehicle for contributing to society through services, products and employment.  Her exposure to the agriculture industry also gave her firsthand experience with systems of power, privilege and oppression, although it wasn’t until she went to college that she began to understand these systems and more clearly see her role in creating social change.

She has tremendous privilege. She is a cisgender, heterosexual, white, highly educated, homeowner, married parent with 2 dogs who benefits from intergenerational wealth accumulated with the assistance of the United States Government’s racist policies, historical and modern day (such as slavery, home allotment, and redlining).  She has also experienced oppression including witnessing misogyny, hearing sexism, and surviving sexual assault, growing up with a single mother on a fixed income, divorce, and family members with severe mental illness.  The intersection of her identities and myriad experiences she’s had throughout her life gifted her with a worldview that that strives to see each of us within the context of our social and cultural identities, communities and systems in which we walk everyday. She looks forward to being part of your journey.
